Successful People: 10 Things Never Do Again (Quotes)
“A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. ” – Albert Einstein
No one has being so informed that there is reason to make mistakes. We all make mistakes but the people who thrive from their mistakes are the successful ones – Henry Cloud. This makes the difference between someone who is scared of failures, so they never tried, someone who tried for once, failed and never tried any longer, and someone who failed and learn to change his approach by keep trying.
Interviews with successful people sounds like, “Never go back.” as one of their advice to all who wants to succeed. What does that mean? From observations of successful people, clinical psychologist and author of “Never Go Back: 10 Things You’ll Never Do Again” (Howard Books, June 2014), Dr. Henry Cloud has discovered certain “awakenings” that people have both in life and in business that, once they have them, they never go back to the old way of doing things. And when that happens, they are never the same. In short, they got it . this can be described as learning and unlearning to learn new things.
If I take to pen to note things you should stop doing in life, you may take the position of Dr. Cloud who learnt mostly the hard way, he said “Years ago, a bad business decision of mine led to an interesting discussion with my mentor,” Dr. Cloud says. “I had learned a valuable lesson the hard way, and he reassured me: ‘The good thing is once you learn that lesson, you never go back. You never do it again.’
Dr. Cloud comment again, “I wondered, what are the key awakenings that successful people go through that forever change how they do things, which propel them to succeed in business, relationships, and life? I began to study these awakenings, researching them over the years.”
Although life and business have many lessons to teach us, let us have an overview of Dr. Cloud observation of 10 “inevitable” of learning that high performers go through, never to return again.
Highly Successful people never again…

Return to what has not worked.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” – Albert Einstein
Whether a job, or a broken relationship that was ended for a good reason, we should never go back to the same thing, expecting different results, without something being different.
“Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being. ” – Albert Schweitzer
-
Do anything that requires them to be someone they are not.
“If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?” – John Wooden
In everything we do, we have to ask ourselves, “Why am I doing this? Am I suited for it? Does it fit me? Is it sustainable?” If the answer is no to any of these questions, you better have a very good reason to proceed. One of the best way to the top is to continuously learn new things – new ways to get things done – new place to get things done – new reasons to get things done – new things to get done.
“If you’re not learning while you’re earning, you’re cheating yourself out of the better portion of your compensation.” – Napoleon Hill

Try to change another person.
Mohandas Gandhi said “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
I have read Bill Gates several times saying, never tire to change people. See how you can get the best of them.
“One of the things I learned when I was negotiating was that until I changed myself, I could not change others.” – Nelson Mandela
Sooner or later, when you realize that you cannot force someone into doing something, you give him or her freedom and allow them to experience the consequences. In doing so, you find your own freedom as well.
-
Believe they can please everyone.
I will not ignore William Blake popular quotes “Love seeketh not itself to please, nor for itself hath any care, but for another gives its ease, and builds a Heaven in Hell’s despair.” my position on this is focusing on your reasons for living.
Once you get that it truly is impossible to please everyone, you begin to live purposefully, trying to please the right people.
One of my favorites quote is “My life didn’t please me, so I created my life.” by Coco Chanel.
“I know in my heart that man is good, that what is right will always eventually triumph, and there is purpose and worth to each and every life.” – Ronald Reagan
-
Choose short-term comfort over long-term benefit.
“The capacity to suffer varies more than anything that I have observed in human nature.” – Margot Asquith
Once successful people know they want something that requires a painful, time-limited step, they do not mind the painful step because it gets them to a long-term benefit.
“The whole secret of a successful life is to find out what is one’s destiny to do, and then do it.” – Henry Ford
Living out this principle is one of the most fundamental differences between successful and unsuccessful people, both personally and professionally.

-
Trust someone or something that appears flawless.
“Life did not intend to make us perfect. Whoever is perfect belongs in a museum.” – Erich Maria Remarque
It’s natural for us to be drawn to things and people that appear “incredible.” We love excellence and should always be looking for it. We should pursue people who are great at what they do, employees who are high performers, dates who are exceptional people, friends who have stellar character, and companies that excel.
“When I was in school the teachers told me practice makes perfect; then they told me nobody is perfect so I stopped practicing.” – Steven Wright said this jokingly
However, when someone or something looks too good to be true, he, she, or it is. The world is imperfect. Period. No one and no thing is without flaw, and if they appear that way, hit pause.

Take their eyes off the big picture.
“Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.” – Marcus Aurelius
We function better emotionally and perform better in our lives when we can see the big picture. For successful people, no one event is ever the whole story. Winners remember that—each and every day.
Men who thier works still lives after thier departure like Albert Einstein said “I never think of the future – it comes soon enough. “
Most of the time, the future is not a problem, if the present is spent without pretending – Tolu Adebayo
“The future starts today, not tomorrow.” – Pope John Paul II
-
Neglect to do due diligence.
We all know we owe ourselves reality, while the unsuccessful people stay away from it, the successful people die for it – Tolu Adebayo
No matter how good something looks on the outside, it is only by taking a deeper, diligent, and honest look that we will find out what we truly need to know: the reality that we owe ourselves.
“Diligence is the mother of good fortune. And idleness, its opposite, never brought a man to the goal of any of his best wishes.” – Miguel de Cervantes

Fail to ask why they are where they find themselves.

“Reflection is invention, lack of reflection is inflection without prevention again” – Tolu Adebayo
One of the biggest differences between successful people and others is that in love and in life, in relationships and in business, successful people always ask themselves, what part am I playing in this situation? Said another way, they do not see themselves only as victims, even when they are.
“The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress, and grows brave by reflection.” – Thomas Paine

Forget that their inner life determines their outer success.
“A happy life consists in tranquility of mind.” – Cicero
The good life sometimes has little to do with outside circumstances. We are happy and fulfilled mostly by who we are on the inside.
And our internal lives largely contribute to producing many of our external circumstances.
“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.” – Albert Camus
And, the converse is true: people who are still trying to find success in various areas of life can almost always point to one or more of these patterns as a reason they are repeating the same mistakes.
“Only married people understand you can be miserable and happy at the same time. ” – Chris Rock
You can now count; everyone makes mistakes…even the most successful people out there. Notwithstanding, what successful people do better than others is recognize the patterns that are causing those mistakes and never repeat them again.
“If you will not change your failed approach, don’t worry, you are settled for bigger reproach” – Tolu Adebayo
Have I show you the lesson, so far, they learn from pain—their own and the pain of others.
There are so many books out there written by successful people and those who studied successful people. You can make some numbers to avoid already made mistakes and go for unique ones. I am not celebrating mistake but I take corrections as connections between stupidity and sensibility.
“Corrections are crossroads between stupidity and sensibility” – Tolu Adebayo
A good thing to remember is this: pain is unavoidable, but repeating the same pain twice, when we could choose to learn and do something different, is certainly avoidable.
“I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one.” – Maya Angelou
I like to say, “we don’t need new ways to fail…. the old ones are working just fine!” Our task, in business and in life, is to observe what they are, and never go back to doing them again.
